Physics 8 Leavitt Middle school

Welcome to one of the most incredible year your student will have in their educational career!  Eighth grade is an exciting time as they will be preparing to move on to high school and continue their journey of completing their public education. I am Ms. Brackney and I will be your student’s 8th grade science teacher for the 2008-2009 school year.  I hope to make your child’s learning experience a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love for learning that will carry on through to high school.

I have lived in Las Vegas and taught in Clark County going on 6 years.  I moved here from Detroit, Michigan in 2003.  There, I earned my bachelors degree from Eastern Michigan University in Elementary Education with a minor in physics, math and art.  Once I arrived here in Las Vegas, I continued my education and recently completed my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in May 2007.  Prior to coming to Leavitt Middle School I taught Earth Science at the 7th grade level and last year I taught 5th grade at Elizondo Elementary.  Coming back to Middle School is very exciting for me and I look forward to teaching science again.

I encourage independence in my classroom in order to enforce responsibility, study skills and good study habits.  I want my students to be able to try for themselves, before asking for help, to encourage self-reliance.  This method helps them develop critical thinking skills and will further prepare them for high school.  If after giving any problem some critical thought, students who need help, are welcome to come and see me during class, before or after school.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free and contact me, preferably through e-mail for I check it several times a day and in the evening and on weekends.
